Interests

  • Seismic Resilience after Earthquake

Through my education at Cal Poly, we learned extensively about past and recent earthquakes around the world and how seismic design has changed over time in response. I am interested in designing and retrofitting buildings to optimize tenant safety. Improving safety is a meaningful way structural engineers can make an impactful and lasting difference in their communities.

  • Seismic Retrofit in Dense Cities

In cities like San Francisco, there are thousands of tall buildings seismically designed based on outdated code. A list recently published by the city of San Francisco revealed that over 3,400 concrete buildings are at serious risk of collapse during a major earthquake. I am interested in how to tackle widespread seismic retrofit in cities where access and funds are limited.

  • Sustainable Buildings

I have taken several classes on sustainable design in buildings and civil infrastructure, with heavy emphasis in sustainable building design. There are so many ways to make buildings healthy for occupants, environmentally sustainable, and economically friendly. I am excited to see the future of sustainable building design and to be a part of it.
