About Me
Hi, I'm Tana! I recently moved to San Francisco to pursue my career as a structural engineer. I just started with Holmes US in January 2025 as a structural designer. I am currently working on a mix of commercial tenant improvement projects and high-end residential new builds. Working on a wide variety of projects has given be the opportunity to see project workflow for all different project sizes and to work with various design criteria across commercial and residential design.
I am an alumnus of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I got my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a minor in construction management and my master’s degree in civil & environmental engineering with emphasis in structural engineering. I recently finished my graduate program in June of 2024. After graduating, I took six months to travel around Europe, Asia, and Australia before starting with Holmes US in January. It was a very fulfilling trip, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to travel the world, and for the most part, solo. My trip was a perfect break to transition from being a student to a working professional and has made me a well-rounded person and hopefully an even better engineer.
During my time at Cal Poly, I held several leadership positions. Most recently, I served as the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Chair of Theta Tau, a professional engineering fraternity. I was a member of Theta Tau for three years and have served on the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion committee every quarter. I served as Theta Tau’s Class Kinship Chair in 2021 as well. I also served as the Cal Poly Panhellenic Executive Vice President for 2022, in which I was awarded Council officer of the Year for my time served in this position. I was also actively participating in my social sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, where I served on the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee as well.
I am a first-generation college student and was able to attend Cal Poly thanks to the generosity of the Heye Family. I was awarded a fully funded scholarship for my undergraduate and graduate education through the Marvin Arnold and Irene Jaquetta Heye Scholarship. Due to the amount and means of the scholarship I received; I was classified as a Mustang Scholar. At the time I began studying at Cal Poly, there were 42 Mustang Scholars across Cal Poly’s undergraduate and graduate student body. Awardees for this scholarship were selected based on educational achievement, extracurricular involvement, volunteer hours, a series of handwritten essays, letters of recommendation, and financial need. The Heye family has made higher education possible for me and I am very grateful for their support as I enter my professional career.
Before beginning my professional career with Holmes US, I had three summer internships across various fields within the industry. I spent summer of 2023 interning with ZFA Structural Engineers in San Francisco. Before working at ZFA, I interned with Kimley-Horn in San Diego, and Stacy and Witbeck in Seattle. You can read more about my time with these companies under the Experience tab. Interning with a general contractor, civil consulting firm, and structural engineering firm allowed me to see project management, design, and construction, from the perspective of many different entities on a project. I have a greater appreciation and understanding for all roles on projects and was able to decide which I was most drawn to before fully diving into structural engineering.
Although I decided to dive into my career in San Francisco, I am originally from Santa Clarita, California. I am an extroverted people person, so I appreciate the opportunities to expand beyond the technical component of engineering, whether that be through hobbies, clubs, or leadership opportunities in the workplace. Outside of my studies and extracurriculars, you can find me hiking, backpacking, or traveling. I love spending time outdoors, especially in new places.
I am excited to further explore this industry that I am so passionate about. Please feel free to reach out to me with an email or phone call!
